It is great to see the parents of our juniors taking part in the senior races and like everything else in life, the more you do of something, the better you get. And some of these parents are definitely getting into this fell running.
And what a great family day out this makes.

Lorraine Slater and Emma Taylor took part in this race in very hot and humid conditions. It was so tough, far worse than last year as the times show.

This race is a bit of a favourite for Richard Treitl and this year he was the only Barlicker there.

Four Barlickers took on this race which is used by many as a practice for the main race in 3 weeks time. The race sets off at 7pm and you go straight to the top of the Llanberis pass where the finish is at the summit and get greeted with the best views the UK has to offer. An absolute treat of a race.

This race is something completely different. The race starts at Bury station on the East Lancashire Steam Railway. On the whistle the runners set off north. The train sets off south, changes tracks and then sets off north in pursuit of the runners. Friends and supporters can enjoy the ride on the train, shouting encouragement to the runners as they both make the eleven mile journey up to Rawtenstall station.
Jon Cleaver took part and fought a hard race, with the first three finishers constantly changing places until the last mile, where Craig Jones of Manchester YMCA managed to edge ahead, nudging John into second place. As regards the train, it was no contest, Jon beat it by 34 minutes.

399 runners.
The details are:Several members got together and put a couple of teams into this event and given that it was on such an ad hoc basis, did remarkably well. The vets team took first place and the mixed team were third.
Ian Beresford & Andy Berry got the vets off to a good start by finishing their leg in sixth position before handing over to Shaun Chew & Carl Pawson. These two managed to hold this position and they handed over to Lucas Payne & Paul Elcock. This pair lost a place and the following pair of Shane Muller & Jacqueline Collins slipped by two places and thus handed over to the finishing pair of Ian Cocks & Ben Hoyle in 9th place. This final pair put in a good performance and pulled back one place which was enough to secure first Vets Team.
The first leg of the mixed team was Billy Haines & Leanne Dinsdale who finished their leg in 27th place. The next pair of Lucy Brown & Andy Collins put in a good performance and were 22nd in their leg, but overall finished in 29th position. Next off were Hannah Watson & Scott Boardman who pulled the team up to 23rd overall. Jamie Milligan & Karen Lemon lost three places on their leg and the last leg of Amanda Haines & James Fent lost a further four places to finish in 30th place overall and 3rd mixed team.
All in all, a good day out in a fun event.
