Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. There was a great turnout from Barlick for this event and the club fielded eight teams, including three ladies' teams.  The official results are out and can be viewed from the links below.  The club did extremely well - how well depends on how you interpret the results.  The first team home was One man from Belmonti.  However, it was made up of runners from different clubs.  Because of that the first team prize went to Horwich, whose team comprised of all Horwich members.   So, depending how you view things, our first team, Barlick Hares, was either second or third team.

The same applies to our second team, Barlick Hop Limp Run.  They were tenth team home, but there were two teams in front of them that were not all from one club, so they were either eighth or tenth, depending how you look at it.  So, take your pick.

However, not to be outdone by the men was the ladies' team.  Our first team, Barlick Ladies 'A' was 35th overall, but 3rd ladies team.  A terrific performance from our girls.

Further details will be posted shortly.

As a change from the normal pub run format, this was from the home of Dave & Louise Halliday and incorporated a barbecue and barrel of Bridgehouse Brewery Ale.  As a result, it attracted a wide range of support of going on 30 people, including wives and children.  Some people even went for a run.

At the end of the night, an empty barrel testified to the fact that a good evening was had by all.

This race goes through the heart of Burnley, taking in three of the town’s parks; Rowley Park, Towneley Park and Thompson Park.

This year it provided another race win for Matt Lalor as he stormed to victory in his hometown.  His time of 34mins was enough to win the race 1min 12secs from Chris Holdsworth from Clayton.  Andrew Carson also had a cracking run coming home 14th in a time of 37.56mins.  John Boothman was next home after his race at Buckden yesterday he ran a creditable 45.16.

Alison Sugden had a good run finishing in a time of 55mins to round up the Barlick runners.

1 Matt Lalor 34:00
14 Andrew Carson 37:56
152 John Boothman 45:16
547 Alison Sugden 55:00

Ted Mason has won most of the races in the Wharfedale valley and although he has been second on several occasions, first place in this race has proved to be very elusive.  It was therefore nice to see Ted entering the finish funnel first at last.  He was pushed hard by Sam Watson, who is also gaining a reputation for being second in this race, but Ted is one of the best descenders on the fell, bar none and this is where he had the edge over Sam.  These two had opened up a bit of a gap on Nigel Wood of Coniston who was the third place runner, who finished just ahead of Neal Crampton of Torq Trail Running.  Neil is a very good ascender and he showed this again today by being first to the summit.

In the ladies race, Aly Raw of Bingley showed that despite being a Vet 50 runner, she is still a force to be reckoned with, and she took first place.  She finished ahead of Lorraine Slater of Barlick Fell Runners.  The third lady was Rachel Lowther, also of Barlick Fell Runners.

Hopefully a full album of race pictures will be available tomorrow.
