Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Chris Smale.  He passed away on 6 February, age 61, after a battle with an aggressive form of cancer.  He was very proud of his membership of the club.  He was a very good runner, a good team mate and he would do anything to help you.

At the pub runon Wednesday at the Punch Bowl , everyone reminisced about past times with Chris.  No one had a bad word to say about him and it was obvious listening to everyone that he was well thought of within the club and that everyone had a high opinion about him both as an individual and as a runner.  Before leaving, everyone raised their glasses in memory of a top man and club member.

If anyone would like to say farewell to Chris, the details are below.

This race was due to be held in December, but it was postponed as it was windy on the day.  We had four teams entered for the original race, but could only scrape two together for the new date.  The men's team came 5th overall and the ladies finished 11th.

5 Barlick Love Machines

Leg One Andy Collins & John Mason
Leg Two John Boothman & Glen Whittaker
Leg Three Carl Walkden & Des Walkden
Leg Four Stan Dreiling & Shane Muller

Time 4:33:11

11 Barlick Love Handles

Leg One Nic Macnamara & Paula Cullen
Leg Two Lucy Brown & Jacqueline Collins
Leg Three Nicola Muller & Cloe Mason
Leg Four Lisa Gee & Leah Edwards

Time 5:04:50

The route of this race features two scenic laps, around Salford and Eccles and on footpaths around Salford Quays. The course follows the paths and pavements inside the centre of Media City. It is is a closed-road race.

Raymond Banks 1:44:11 (1st V70)

122 Stephen Jackson 30:13

45 Raymond Banks 23:25
87 James Austin 25:57

41 Jennifer Hird 25:37
49 Emma Pease 26:19
50 Lucy Brown 26:20
51 Dave Halliday 26:20

17 John Boothman 25:07

28 Raymond Banks 21:51
191 James Austin 28:48

The first three finishers were cyclists, but they were all on e-bikes, so no surprises there.  The next 3 finishers were also cyclists, but they did it the hard way.  This race saw the return of Dave Halliday to competitive running and he did not pick an easy one for his comeback.

The Barlickers finished as follows:

51 Andrew Smith, Cyclist 39:43
73 Robert Cranham, Runner 42:53
126 Dave Halliday, Runner 51:55

Good performances from all the Barlickers in these races with Emma Law taking the honours in the ladies 30 mile race.
