Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Six Barlickers set off from Wycoller to Haworth on the Bronte Way - a race which was won by Wharfedale's Jack Smith, with two Barlickers in the top ten.  As usual, this race had a social ending with free beer, soup and a roll.

7 Andrew Driver 1:00 59
8 Charlie Murgatroyd 1:01:35
30 Rob Hodgkinson 1:06:28
31 Chris Smedley 1:06:38
39 Dave Halliday 1:08:15
49 John Boothman 1:09:31

Three Barlickers ran in this race on a course which started with a very fast first half.  The second half was much harder - uphill and into a strong wind.

19 Andy Berry  38:46
52 Sarah Tipler 43:29
89 Richard Starkie 46:12

337 finishers

First competitive race for a while for Stephen Chew. After running round into what felt like gale force winds, he finished in 3rd place in a time of 34:39.

It was an amazing start to the cross country season with a record number of Barlickers turning out to represent their club and this included a ladies team.

Having gained promotion last year the men's A team have started the season in Division 3 and the ladies in Division 4.

A great run from Sarah Tipler saw her finish in 4th place overall and great supporting runs from Jennifer Hird and Rachel Lowther saw them finish 14th team overall, which must put them in contention for top places in their division.

As for the men, there were Barlick shirts all the way through the field, with five runners, led by Jimmy Craig,  finishing in the top twenty.  Along with Chris Smale who finished in 32nd position, this made Barlick the first team overall out of all divisions, with the B team finishing 9th overall.  The vet's team were 7th overall.

This was indeed a very good start to the season.

Barlick are First Mixed Team

Brief report of the day by Andy Berry

The mixed team, comprising Rachel Lowther, Jennnifer Hird, Sarah Tipler, Andrew Carson, Andy Berry and Sam Gibbs, did the club proud by finishing in 88th position overall out of 213 starters and first mixed team.  Their combined time was 4:55:46.

A great run by Julian Hood saw him come home in 2nd place behind Danield Jenkin of Durham City Harriers.  John Boothman was a little way behind him, but he was saving himself for cyclo cross in the afternoon at Broughton Hall.
