Since its formation two and a half years ago, the club has harboured an ambition to have a junior section, where we could encourage youngsters to get out and start running.
On Monday this week, we took our first step in fulfilling this ambition and set up a junior training program which was held in Victory Park. The session was taken by Nick Treitl, Stephen Chew and Sarah Tipler. Being the first session, it was not widely publicised yet it attracted an incredible 29 youngsters.
This will now be a regular weekly event.
We have set up a new Junior Section on the web site and whereas at the moment it only contains details of the Monday training session, it will be developed as our juniors start spreading their wings and start racing.
Chris Holdsworth of Clayton had a storming run, finishing in 41:26 and beating the boys from Barlick, with Marc Hartley just out sprinting Tom Corrigan to take second place. 4th was Julian Hood meaning another team prize for the men. The ladies also won the team prize with Lorraine Slater finishing 2nd lady and being backed up with strong performances from Jen Hird and Angela Donlan, all in the top 8 ladies. Jean Rawlinson continued her domination of the FV60 category with another 1st place.
A very well organised race yet again from Trawden with 190 runners. The junior races were also well attended.

If you feel it has been hot here, try a Park Run in Florida, where this weekend, there was a Barlick vest on display. The run started at 7:30 am before it got too hot and at the end there was a welcoming bottle of water and a piece of melon. The atmosphere was great and the local people were very welcoming.

In the past month, Barlick members have raised over £1,000 for this local charity. The first money raising event was the Man v Bike race up Salterforth Drag. This raised £430 on the night, but money kept money kept flowing in for it. It had reached £500 when the above picture was taken for the press and was £600 by the time the money was handed over.
At the Kelbrook Fell Race, the sale of Cakes and Ale raised a further £67.
In the meantime, Tom Corrigan took part in the Trail Blaster event and managed to raise over £400 from his 12 hour challenge, bring the total to nearly £1,100 for this worthy cause.

This must be one of those annoying courses that favours junior runners. There were two in front of Screw, one of them being in 2nd place overall and Angela was actually 1st senior woman, but unfortunately for her, again, two juniors managed to skip home in front of her, the first home being an FU14!
Richard Treitl again entered this race and knocked 7 minutes off his time last year. He puts this down to better weather (hot and humid last year, wet and windy this year) and in knowing what to expect in terms of terrain and severity of the ascents.
45 Richard Treitl 2:01:32
