Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Ian Livesey and Nick Treitl ran this race at the Sports City Stadium in Manchester. Ian was 1st home in 8th place with a time of 34.11. Nick came home in 11th in 35.06. Great to see Livers making his way back after a couple of months out of action.  James MacDonald finished 145th in 42:11.

2259 finishers.

Marc Hartley showed the field a clean pair of heels and won this race comfortably from Tom Corrigan in 2nd which makes the overall Burnley and Pendle GP very interesting for the remaining 3 races.  Marc had pulled a good lead out by the summit of Mount lane and stretched it out further on the return to the park.  Tom was comfortably 2nd with Andy Berry showing his continued good form nearly making it a Barlick 1,2,3.  Young Jacob Watson of Clayton had other ideas though and pulled Andy in on the last mile.  Andy Carson also had a cracking run finishing 6th overall.  Peter Wilkinson won the vet65 category in his second appearance in the Barlick vest.  Jen Hird finished 4th lady continuing her good form.

1 Marc Hartley 33:52

45 Jennifer Hird 43:57
75 Richard Starkie 47:18

Jack Wood of Ilkley Harriers is in form at the moment and following on from his win at Stirton on Wednesday, he also won this race today in a time of 39:56.  The Barlickers finished as follows:

24 Richard Lowther 48:40
51 Angela Donlan 53:44
52 Nicholas Kendall 54:01

A good turnout of Barlickers for this race, with five out of the top ten places going to the club.   At the front, it was nip and tuck between Jack Wood and Jimmy Craig with Jack just shading it.  Jimmy was perhaps feeling the aftermath of a hard track session or as he put it as he approached the summit for the second time, "Harvey killed me last night".  You might not see Mark Sandamas out on the fells for a while, but when he does return, you would never believe he has been away and in this race he managed a top ten finish as well as being first V40/V45.

In the ladies race, it was another outright victory for Lorraine Slater who was also first V40/V45 with Angela Donlan finishing 4th lady overall.  All the Barlick finishing positions and times were as follows:

2 Jimmy Craig 36:38
4 Julian Hood 37:15
5 Luke Maude 37:25
8 Andy Berry 39:07
10 Mark Sandamas 40:56
12 Andrew Driver 42:44
18 Lee Edwards 43:36
19 Richard Lowther 43:41

Since its formation two and a half years ago, the club has harboured an ambition to have a junior section, where we could encourage youngsters to get out and start running.

On Monday this week, we took our first step in fulfilling this ambition and set up a junior training program which was held in Victory Park. The session was taken by Nick Treitl, Stephen Chew and Sarah Tipler. Being the first session, it was not widely publicised yet it attracted an incredible 29 youngsters.

This will now be a regular weekly event.

We have set up a new Junior Section on the web site and whereas at the moment it only contains details of the Monday training session, it will be developed as our juniors start spreading their wings and start racing.

The sessions will take place from Barnoldswick Cricket Club at 6.30pm on a Monday and cost £1.

Each child will have a head torch and a high visibility vest for the session unless they have their own head torch.

The Junior session caters for all levels of ability.

After a quick and fun warm up we divide the group into 3 relating to age and ability.

The 3 groups then go with one of the three coaches, Stephen Chew, Nick Treitl and Sarah Tipler.

The sessions will be a mixture of

1 speed work
2 hurdles and technique work
3 endurance
4 pacing

The main aim is to get as many of the juniors racing as soon as possible.

The junior vests can be ordered from Stephen Chew for £15.

Parents attending will be able to seek shelter in the club house at the cricket club.  Tea and coffee will be on sale for 50p.  Alternatively you can join in the new beginner session starting on Monday 12th October from the cricket club.
