Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Membership fees for the club are as follows:

In view of the injury which he incurred in the London Marathon, John has given running a miss, except for a couple of steady jogs and at the same time, he pulled out of the Pennine Barrier and the Leeds Marathon as they were totally unachievable without totally wrecking his leg.  However, he decided to have a ride up to Edinburgh to have a go at the marathon. 

Being Scotland, rain was forecast and rain it did.  A lot before the start and it continued until John was half way round, when it did brighten up.    However, as soon as he finished, it was back to rain again.  As for the race itself, John set off steadily away with a view to seeing how his leg held up. stopping every five miles to stretch it, as a precaution.  He lack of running caused him a stamina shortage half way round, but nevertheless, he got round in one piece and he was very pleased to finish unscathed.  It was not a rapid run, but there again, it was not too bad.

This race used to go past the monument twice, with a very steep climb up to it the second time round, but that loop has been closed off and the race now just runs on the moor top.  It was a bit misty with a bit of moisture in the air, but perfect for running.  A few Barlickers turned out and were led home by Sam Horrocks, followed by Carl Nevison, who had another very good run.

The pub run this week is literally a pub run.  It starts at the Old Stone Trough at Kelbrook, visiting the Black Lane Ends and the Alma Inn before returning to Kelbrook.  It is to celebrate Carl Pawson's birthday.  Carl is a drinker with a running problem. 

Excellent performances from both the Barlick Men and Women's teams on a hot day. The men came 5th place, despite last minute injuries. Well done to those who stepped in. The women finishing very well in 3rd place.
