On an evening where the conditions were almost perfect, a record number of 256 runners turned up for this popular race, which follows the lanes and tracks from Earby to the summit of Pinhaw and back. There were some notable performances all round. The race winner was Ben Fish. Not only did he win, but he won with a comfortable gap over the second place runner Jonathan Cleaver. At the finish he looked strong and could probably have recorded an even faster time, if he had been under pressure. Third finisher was the talented young runner from Keighley & Craven, Eric Beaumont. He was the first of four under 18 men in the top twenty and this bodes well for the future of the sport.
The ladies' race was dominated by Barlick. First home was W35 Jacqueline Collins, but quite amazingly the second home was the talented young runner Lucille Pickles who was shepherded into the funnel by the third Barlick lady, Rachel Villiers.
Fell running is not all about winning and for many, it is a personal challenge. In that respect, it was great to see old friends who always seem to have been a part of the fell running scene, in this race, such as Karen Goss of Clayton, who romped home to take the W70 prize.
The men's team prize went to Barlick Fell Runners, made up of Jonathan Cleaver, Jack Villiers and David Poole.
The ladies's team prize also went to Barlick of Jacqueline Collins, Lucille Pickles and Rachel Villiers.
It was cold, wet and windy for this 2nd race in the Hollingworth series.

Well done to all the juniors who entered these races. Championship races can sometimes be a bit daunting, but they will all will benefit from the experience. Special mention must go to Lucille Pickles who earned herself a podium place by coming third in the U13 girls race.

Tim Chadwick, Zak Kaye and Ian Livesey (Livers) took the trip to the lakes for this race, which is just under 8 miles and ascent of around 3500ft, taking in Coniston Old Man. It was a cracking day for a fell race, and clear skies ensured everyone had great views at the top, which were well earned after the lung busting first climb to check point one.
The race always attracts a quality field, yet this did not stop Ian Holmes, the grand old man of fell running, from coming 2nd. This year, the race was part of the Lakes Grand Prix, so increased runners meant that Tim went from 34th last last year to 54th, despite the fact that he was four mins quicker than in 2018. He was just four seconds off his target,
Livers had a casual run out, saying that he was only running to accompany Zak. He came home in at 117th position, having departed ways with Zak a few miles in.
As for Zak, he never mentioned to his companions that he had taken part in the Three Peaks Race last week and not only that, he raced in the mid-week Lothersdale race. Given all of that, he finished in very respectable place of 174.

117 Ian Livesey 1:40:07
174 Zac Kaye 1:47:36
312 finishers.
There were prizes galore for the Barlick juniors in these races where everyone seemed to do exceptionally well. The under 9 boys set the tone for the day, taking the first three places in the first race. Then the U11 boys took 2nd and 3rd in their race. Following on from them were firsts for Lucille Pickles & Jack Villiers. But good performances all round. This group of youngsters is starting to mature.

A good turnout of Barlickers in this race, led home by Jonathan Cleaver in third place. This, together with Stephen Shorrocks (7th) and Andy Berry (12th) was enough to earn the team prize for the Barlick men. A good run too for Alex Mason who finished 14th overall and 1st junior male.

It was good to see so many Barlick vests out in this local race with Andy Collins starting to regain some of his old form and lead everyone home. His wife also had a good run to finish 2nd lady. Zac Kaye, John Boothman and Andrew Smith put in surprisingly good performances to say that they had taken part in the Three Peaks race at the weekend.

For those not familiar with it, the Fellsman is a high level traverse covering more than 60 miles over very hard rugged moorland. The event climbs over 11,000 feet in its path from Ingleton to Threshfield.
Most of the route is over privately owned land, the use of which is secured by the organisers for the weekend only. This being the case, the route does not follow well defined footpaths, so the entrants’ navigational skills with a map and compass are tested as well as their physical fitness.
It is four years since Gary Bradley entered this event, so he thought that he would give it another go. Despite the weather, he had a great day finishing in 15:46:11 which was a PB, knocking over 50 minutes off his previous time.
The main aims of the club are to increase the participation of running in Barnoldswick and to keep organised running as accessible as possible.
