Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. At last the results have appeared for last week's race.  The Lowther family were out representing Barlick and finished as follows:

46 Richard Lowther 35:24
55 Rachel Lowther 36:41

It would have been a bit of a sad evening if  Royton Road Runners had not got the majority of their club to turn out for this event, as they made up more than half of the field.  To be fair the conditions were poor due to the bad weather but the event was well marshaled and friendly.  The Barlickers finished:

37 John Boothman 21:45
40 Emma Bailey 22:14
51 Richard Starkie 22:50

54 Jen Hird 1:09:56
55 Lee Edwards 1:09:57
74 Jean Rawlinson 1:18:20

The Barlick lads had a cracking run finishing 15th overall on their 12 stage debut.

On the 1st leg Gaz Shaw got the boys off to a solid start.  Leg 2 saw Jimmy Craig drag the team up to 26th overall with a great run.  Chris Singleton on leg 3 had the run of the day pulling back 6 places.  Leg 4 saw Andrew Carson pull another place back.  Leg 5 and Julian Hood lost a place with a solid run putting Barlick in 20th overall.  Lucas Payne had a great run and consolidated 20th place.  Ian Livesey then took centre stage against Ben Fish but lost 2 places in very stiff competition.  Nick Treitl soon grabbed a place back bringing the team back into 21st on the next leg.  Chris Smale also pulled a place back to bring Barlick back into the top 20 on leg 9. Shaun Chew then pulled back another place to 19th.  Tom Corrigan had a storming leg pulling back another 3 places and Steve Chew pulled another back on the last leg leaving the lads in 15th overall and qualifying the team for the national road relays in the process.

Not bad for to say the club has only entered 2 road relays.  Brilliant effort from the whole team.

Richard Treitl turned out for this 10 mile 3100ft race in Southern Snowdonia, finishing 105th in a time of 2:45:02.  There were 112 finshers.

Des Walkden took part in this race. It started and finished at Cartmel Race Course and the course was in a beautiful setting and on what was a glorious day, there were lovely views over Morecambe Bay. The winner was Christopher Holdsworth from Clayton-le-Moors in a time of 1.10:15 and Des finished 35th in 1.28:17.  A total of 185 runners took part.

Michael Alexander finished in 28th place out of 94 finishers and in a time of 4:57.41

He was really pleased with his run as his primary aim was merely to finish and if he could get a sub 5 hour time, then that was the cherry on top.

Gary Shaw had a cracking run today to finish 4th in this race in a time of around 1hr 57mins.

The precise timing will follow as soon as the reults are published.

27 Andrw Driver 2.14.13

103 Dave Halliday 2.37.20
119 Richard Lowther 2.43.25
133 Rachel Lowther 2.48.07

This race is a bit of serious running.  It starts at Guisborough and passes over the Cleveland Hills, taking in Roseberry Topping and along the crest of the North York Moors before reaching the finish at the Yorkshire Market town of Helmsley, a total of 55 miles.

Barlick member Gary Bradley completed the race in 10 hrs 54 minutes, finishing in 84th position.  His V50 placing is not yet available.

Mark Nutter, not to be confused with our long time friend and stalwart of fell running from Clayton, is a relatively new member of BFR.  He wore his vest for the first time in this event and he commented on it as follow:

I really enjoyed this morning's little outing and got round the 13.1 miles in 1:57:45 and was really pleased to get under the two hours. I was 2067 overall and 133rd in the over 45's.  I didn't quite realise just how hilly the course would be as it has lots of pretty steep hills, primarily it felt like a down hill trend to Wembley and the half way point but then mainly up hill back to the Saracens ground where miles 11 and 12 were both a bit of a killer. Couldn't help but compare it to the GNR where there are mainly only two long killer drags over the course that last for a couple of miles each. Today was tough, but I think I did prefer it to the GNR!
