Four Barlickers made the trip to Trafford. Dave Norman has created a monster with this race with the first 28 runners going under 30mins. The winner was Tom Lancashire in a remarkably quick 28.58. Dan Balshaw was first Barlicker finishing with a new PB of 34.29. The other Barlickers positions and times were:
1 Tom Lancashire 28.58 Bolton Harriers
171 Dan Balshaw 34.29
206 Stephen Chew 35.49
310 Annabel Ralph 39.32
565 Hannah Newbold 49.38
Chris Singleton and Tom Corrigan made the trip to the Midlands to represent Lancashire in the inter counties and both hadput in good performances in a stacked field. Chris and Tom had a good personal battle as well with Chris edging it in the end.

In this race, many of the top runners went astray in the notorious Black Combe clag. However, the conditions were no problem for Ben Mounsey of Calder Valley who took the honours. Not far behind him were Kris Jones and Rhys Findlay-Robinson of Dark Peak, a club who had four runners in the top eleven. Also in the top ten,was the grand old man of fell running, Ian Holmes who finished in eight position.
Against this background, it says a lot that our own Luke Maude finished twelfth. He coped with the conditions that caused problems for so many and also the physical challenges of this race. A truly great performance. What was also amazing was that David Poole finished second Barlicker. David is ostensibly a cyclist. Perhaps he is also a closet fell runner.
In the ladies race, another living legend had a day out that will go down in the annals of fell running. She led from the start, she coped with the conditions and whilst some of the male runners went astray, she stuck to the course and not only came home the race winner, she also set a new course record. Who says that women cannot navigate?
For Barlick, Kelly Whiteside demonstrated what a valuable addition she is to the club, by leading our ladies team home. A great performance by Kelly.
The Barlicki finishing positions were:
12 Luke Maude 1:15:48
88 David Poole 1:24:07

This event broke up into three main groups. The first group was Jack Wood, last weekend's winner of the Stan Bradshaw race, Sam Watson & Shaun Chew. These three broke away from the pack and finished within 18 seconds of each other, with Jack continuing his god form and finishing first.
Then followed the main body of runners with the girls coming home together. After that, there was no sign of anyone else, which was worrying as there was an old chap and Maddy Watson out on the hill. Apparently, he found running in an unfamiliar area in the dark a bit confusing. A quick ring round of the marshals eventually located them and they were escorted down.
Jack Wood of Ilkley was first home and Ian Winstanley of Trawden won the guess your time competition.

Ben Fish comfortably won this race ahead of Danny Collinge of Clayton. However, a great run by Dan Balshaw saw him come home third for Barlick.

Report from Des:
'The day started well a lovely day, the route was an undulating course around the tourist paths and some fields and apart from a stray dog and pram it was a great route. Unfortunately the time clock broke, so they have been struggling to put together some official results. I know my position because I was close to the front (shock - no top runners). The actual race route was 10.6km.'
