Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. This race followed the bad weather route because of storm Dennis, who was certainly in full swing when the runners reached the summit.  Well done to Bowland for going ahead with this race with particular thanks to the marshals who were out in some grim conditions.  a couple of Barlickers braved the conditions and they finished as follows:

21 John Boothman 41:15
49 Heather Driver 50:09 (7th lady)

5 Andrew Smith 22:03 New PB
29 Garth Duffy 28:10
30 Tony Duffy 28:10

102 Jackie Bonsall

21 Will Pease 21:07
22 David Pease 21:13
34 Lucille Pickles 22:09

For many, a mid-winter trail marathon is quite a challenge. Throw in Storm Ciara and you have a serious challenge.  What was ostensibly a 28 mile route became nearly 29 miles after taking into account diversion caused by flooding and running round bogs and marshes.  Not only that, but runners had to contend with 60 mph wind combined with torrential rain.  The rain made new and interesting water crossings and very marshy moorland, where many people, including our own Cloey Mason, waded through waist deep freezing water.  All the mud made for very technical running across the fields, trails, moors and forest and was very energy sapping. . The wind was challenging, especially along the cliff tops and exposed areas.  So well done to Cloey Mason.  Another amazing performance from a Barlicker in the field of long distance running.

Lucky that this was on the Saturday and not the Sunday, as it certainly would have lived up to its name.  Just eight Barlickers in for the first club championship race of the year.

This is a tough race which always attracts a quality field, so it was a good performance from Stuart Heavside to secure a top twenty finish.

67  James Crook 3:40:19

This race was put on last year to celebrate Ted Mason's 40th birthday and following its success, it has been repeated again.  This year a cyclist, David Mirfield won it

1 David Mirfield 27:38 (cyclist)
22 David Poole 35:07 (runner)
35 Andrew Smith 37:35 (cyclist)

Three Barlickers took part in this race which was held in pretty horrendous conditions. It was brutal - very boggy underfoot and so windy, especially on Pendle.  However, when the going gets tough, the tough get going and Lorraine Slater is one tough lady and she finished 7th overall and first lady.  Quite some achievement in those conditions.

This event takes place in the Lake District in Grizedale Forest over varied terrain, but lots of forest tracks.  It is described as undulating, but whatever it is, it is not flat, but the participants are rewarded with some beautiful views.  Two Barlickers took part and put on a good show, both securing a top ten finish out of 166 finishers and quite a few DNFs.
