Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. The conditions were perfect this year for this race. The course was bone dry, it wasn't too hot so fast times were expected. However, the record set by Andy Norman in 2006 stays in tact. It is a ridiculously fast time and sets a serious challenge for the future. It was Mark Addison who took the win in a good time, being chased home by Matthew Hobbs of Pudsey. Of the locals, Nick Treitl continued his comeback with another good run just in front of John Whiteside. Julian Hood was 5th thus bringing home the team prize for Barlick.

The ladies race was won Holly Page from Calder Valley, with Sarah Tipler taking second place. Third was the ever improving Rachel Villiers. Laura Craig came 7th so the Barlick ladies took the team prize.

Other notable performances on the night were 1st vet 50 for Chris Smale, 1st lady 65 for Jean Rawlinson and excellent performances from Jenna Boothman and Jack Villiers.

Thanks once again to the marshals, volunteers and Earby Cricket Club for holding the presentation.

A few member entered this event as Barlickers.  Heather Driver once more showed what a natural she is at this event and came home 63rd overall and 9th lady, despite suffering from "Three Peaks Legs" in the final run.

Three of the men entered as a relay team and came first.  The were Luke Maude (swim), Andy Berry (bike) and Nick Treitl (run).  During his ride, Andy Berry was knocked off his bike and sustained a broken collar bone, but he still managed to finish.  The times for the Barlickers were as follows:

This race saw Stephen Chew back in the fell race scene where he came up against Jack Smith, a regular winner of this race.  Steve gave him a run for his money, but in the end, younger legs prevailed and once more, young Jack took the honours.  It was quite a race, in that whilst Steve was trying to chase down Jack, his team mates were chasing him and he finished just ahead of Nick Treitl and John Whiteside.  Barlick dominated this race in that the club secured five places out of the top ten finishers, with Carl Pawson narrowly missing out on joining that group.

The ladies race saw Sarah Tipler return to the fells to win the ladies race by a comfortable margin.  After her gruelling performance in the Three Peaks race, Leanne Dinsdale put in a surprisingly good performance to finish second woman, making it a Barlick 1-2.  Further down the field, it was good to see new runners Victoria Peel and Donna Milligan out on the fells and with more race experience, these girls will only get better.

A terrific run by Steven Snape saw him run out an easy winner in this first of the Grand Prix series.  On the ascent, he had a huge lead and although Danny Collinge tried to chase him down on the return, there was never any danger that he would end up being the race winner.  Of the Barlickers Julian Hood ascended well and on the approach to the summit was lying in 4th place with John Whiteside just behind him.  However, Julian faded on the descent, whilst John kept his place to lead the Barlickers home.  A good run by David Poole saw him finish in 8th position and secure Barlick the men's team prize.

In the ladies race, once more Rachel Villiers once more demonstrated that she is a good performers in all disciplines of running and finished 3rd lady and 2nd WV35.

Following on from the race report yesterday, the team results are now out and Barlick were the 4th team behind Pudsey & Bramley, Calder Valley and Dark Peak.  It was four to count and the stars for Barlick were:

Julian Hood 19, James Craig 35, David Poole 37 and Virgil Barton 47.

This is called the cake race, because you can bring a cake in lieu of the entry fee of £5.  There is a competition for the best cake and after the race, all the cakes are for eating and if you fancy one, it is yours in return for a £2 donation to local causes.  On to the race itself.  It is held over well trodden paths in the area surrounding the village of Diggle which is located between Oldham & Huddersfield.  It is a ten mile race with 1699 ft of ascent.

Richard Treitl was our only representative there and he finished in 240th position out of 278 finishers.

240 Richard Treitl 1:58:39

23 Paul Elcock 20:38

First of all, those watching this race saw history being made, as an incredible performance from Victoria Wilkinson saw her come home  in 13th position overall as first woman and settting a new women's record of 3:09:19 in the process.  This was quite an incredible achievement from an incredible athlete.

We had a record number of Barlickers out in this race, many running their first peaks race and they produced some feisty performances.  First home was Julian Hood who ran a superb race and secured himself a top twenty finish, knocking 6 minutes from his time of last year.  Next behind Julian was Jimmy Craig, who had a ding dong battle with peaks first time David Poole.  David was leading the pair at the top of Ingleborough, but Jimmy dug deep into those famous reserves and managed to cross the line just ahead of his team mate.  A great performance from David to make a race of it with Jimmy.
