Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Sam Wadsworth was on holiday in France and he took part in this 12.4 km road race which includes 300m of climb.  The course takes a loop of the village before setting off up the hillside, zig zagging until it reaches the top before a long descent back to the finish.   He only had his fell shoes with him, which were not ideal, but he finished in around 30th position in just under an hour.  He reports that it was a nice race with plenty of water stations and a good spread of cakes and refreshments at the finish.

Muddy Kit wanted 4 top men and women to form a team to represent and promote their brand.  This race acted as a Muddy Kit team trial with only the top 3 being guaranteed a place in their team.  It is a well established course full of deep mud, barbed wire, water crossings, climbs and all other manner of weird and wonderful pain inducing obstacles..  Because of the rewards to the leaders, it was an out and out race to the line.

Despite being his first race back since suffering a calf injury, Shaun Chew had a blinding performance to finish in 1st place, no doubt spurred on by the thoughts of free kit and a place in the team.  James Fent and Luke Wallwork also entered and both had great runs especially since all three Barlickers only found out about this race a little over a week ago.  Results may not be published, but the Barlick boys all finished in the top 3rd of the field.

The race was won by the young jacob Boyle of Hyndburn in 42:26 and the ladies race was won by Holly Page of Calder Valley. The Barllickers finished as follows:

5 Jimmy Craig 43:35
12 Andrew Driver 47:18
17 David Poole 48:46
20 Sarah Tipler 49:04 (2nd lady)
31 Jonathan Boothman 51:39
34 Derek Walkden 52:10
41 Dave Halliday 53:25
44 Lee Edwards 54:06
60 Jennifer Hird 57:36
88 Jean Rawlinson 1:02:47
91 Lucy Beresford 1:04:08
92 Emma Bailey 1:04:11

This is the final race in the Grand Prix Series and sees Jimmy Craig take 2nd place in the men's championship and Sarah Tipler take 1st place in the ladies championship, with 4 Barlick ladies in the final top ten championship places.

Two Barlickers went over to Cowpe for this race - John Boothman & Jean Rawlinson. Jean finished 1st LV60 and John was rewarded for his efforts with a bottle of wine for finishing 3rd V50.

27 John Boothman 55:08
63 Jean Rawlinson 1:02:55

Because it was in aid of Ovarian cancer, Emma Bailey persuaded Lianne Belshaw and Helen Stead to take part in their first ever individual race.  Before the race, they were bother very nervous and now they are both exhausted, as well as elated.  Helen is pleased that she did not come last and that she managed to achieve her target of finishing in less than an hour.

Results:

93 Emma Bailey 47:55
129 Lianne Belshaw 54:54
136 Helen Stead 59:41

138 runners

2 Matt Lalor 56:04
4 Julian Hood 57:49

John Boothman decided to do this race a little while ago and pre-entered.  He set off in good time and and all went well until he was 4 miles from the race, when the traffic came to a standstill.  It took one hour to go one mile.  The race start time was 9:30 and the time was now 9:10.  Along with many others, John decided to abandon the car and run in, only to learn on arrival that the organisers had responded to the chaos and delayed the start. Any way, that was a 3 mile warm up in place.  His race details were:

363 John Boothman 43:31

5029 finishers.

By the end of the day, he had done 20K
