Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. FRA Junior Champs - Sedbergh - 26 May 2019

Written by

These races were Round 4 of the FRA Junior Championships.  Each runner received a medal at the end of the race and rightly so, after Helm Hill chose an extremely challenging route for each category.  All five of our young runners did the club extremely proud considering the weather and the terrain.   It must be one of the few junior races where the participants were climbing up on their hands and feet!

Austwick Amble - 27 May 2019

Written by

On this Bank Holiday Monday, there is a great atmosphere in the lovely dales village of Austwick with its street market and entertainers and makes a great back drop for the series of junior fell races.

There were a couple of podium finishes for the few juniors who turned out and they were both in the U11 race.  Bella McCredie finished second girl and Will Pease was third boy.

U11
3 Will Pease 8:24
5 Isaac Reeday 8:45
6 Harry Driver 8:51
10 Bella McCredie 9:22 (2nd girl)

U13
4 Jacob Reeday 10:24
5 Logan McCredie 10:36

A good turnout for this Bank Holiday race set in the lovely dales village of Austwick with its traditional street market.  Jonathan Cleaver found himself up against two in form runners, John Stretton & Lee Athersmith, but nevertheless, put in a top performance to take third place.  Stephen Shorrocks had a great run to finish 6th and take the 1st V40 prize.

In the ladies race, Jacqueline Collins led the Barlick ladies home. but this was not her type of race and she struggled to emulate the form which she showed in the Burnley Lions race.  (Or was it because she put so much into that race, only two days earlier?).

There were a a few podium prizes for our junior runners and these are detailed on our Junior website.

3 Jon Cleaver 52:17
6 Stephen Shorrock 53:49 (1st M40)
16 Andy Berry 57:17
20 Ian Cocks 58:09
47 Shane Muller 1:02:50
50 Andrew Smith 1:03:36
53 Jacqueline Collins 1:03:50
54 David Pease 1:03:57
60 Paul Elcock 1:05:06
61 John Boothman 1:05:12
69 Glenn Whittaker 1:06:54
76 Pete Jackson 1:08:03
95 Jamie Fox 1:10:46
111 Heather Driver 1:13:58
113 Hayley Whitehead 1:14:39
142 Katie Towers 1:21:47
143 Nicola Muller 1:22:06

It is not often that a club from round here goes up to the Lakes and takes the team prize, but as a result of three cracking performances, that is what Barlick did today.  This is a typical out and back race over 15.5 miles with 5,300 ft of climbing in it.  Sadly the clag was down for most of the day with only brief glimpses of the usual great Lakeland views.

Julian finished 8th, Andy Collins was 10th and with Tim bringing up the rear in 15th place, it was enough to secure the team prize.  Good fell running in what is serious fell running country.

8 Julian Hood 2:31:19 (2nd M40)
10 Andy Collins 2:34:58
15 Tim Chadwick 2:37:01
109 Karl Robb 3:57:07

47 David Mirfield 2:51:33
77 David Poole 2:54:49
1482 Cloey Mason 3:46:47

A great performance by Jacqueline Collins saw her comfortably take the honours in the women's race, with Heather Driver finishing 8th.  In the men's race, Jonathan Cleaver led the Barlickers home, finishing in 5th place.  Junior runner, Alex Mason is getting used to mixing it in the senior races and he enjoyed a top ten finish (finishing 8th overall) and 1st under 18 by a comfortable margin.  A good turnout of Barlickers with many finishing amongst the top category positions.
