Five Barlickers made the 95 mile journey up to the Lakes for this race.
They finished as follows:
5 Jimmy Craig 17:31
24 Lorraine Slater 21:48 (2nd woman, 1st W45)
28 John Boothman 22:02
35 Hannah Newbold 24:15 (1st WU23)
39 Dave Halliday 24:45
16 Cloey Masoon 26:41
30 Anne Marie Beech 30:40
The official results show Cloey Mason as finishing in 81st position in a time of just over the hour. In actual fact the results do not tell the full tale. On her way to the race, she found that the M61/M6 was gridlocked due to an accident, so she arrived late and set off 14 minutes behind everyone else. Her actual time was 47:35.
81 Cloey Mason 1:01:38
A good turnout from Barlick today with 5 finishers in the top ten. In the early stages of the race, Robin Howie & Jack Smith of Wharfedale built up a good lead after the climb out of Wycoller to Watersheddles Reservoir. They were busy racing each other and everyone wondered if they had put too much effort in too early and would be caught as the race progressed. In the end, they ran out easy winners, with Lee Athersmith who had been trailing them at the Res, closing in on them.
In the meantime, there was another club battle going on between David Mirifield, Andy Collins and Ian Beresford with them finishing in that order and good performances from Stuart Heaviside and Ben Whitehead completed the BFR top ten finishers.
Carl Pawson still has his running head in the right place and he managed to hold off Declan Bulmer to take 11th place overall and first M45. Andrew Smith is on fire, finishing just outside the top twenty and once more taking the 1st M55 place.
All in all, it was a good show from Barlick, with everyone all the way down the field racing until the end. Well everyone except Heather and Andrew Driver who went out for a gentle jog, seeing that Heather had run yesterday in the cross country. Karen Lemon gave it her all, but again was suffering from two races in two days.

There is a small but growing band of runners within the club who are getting the taste of serious fell running in the Lake District. This is one such race. It is 13 miles in length with 4,757 ft of ascent and is a tough challenge. Luckily, the weather was kind and a record number of starters set off (just short of 400). In view of the recent weather, the going underfoot was very slippery on the rocks and very boggy everywhere else. As a result, many runners spent quite a bit of time on their arses. Stuart Heaviside had a good run and posted a good time as well as leading the Barlickers home. Ben Hoye did not look too great before the start, but he came to as the race progressed and he also had a good run. John Boothman set off wearing an old worn pair of trainers, which were not ideal for the conditions underfoot and they did not help his race. In addition, John also suffered from "sheep syndrome" and after the bad step on Crinkle Crags, he followed a group of runners who led him on a longer excursion than he need have taken. This probably cost him about thirty places, but he still managed a quicker time than last year.
Special mention should be made of Helen Harrison. She made up her own mind to take on this race and whilst she has done long runs, they were probably not anything like the terrain of this race. However, she not only completed the course, but finished in good shape and looking cheerful.
69 Stuart Heaviside 2:42:18
93 Ben Hoyle 2:50:10
194 John Boothman 3:16:35
374 Helen Harrison 4:32:55
396 starters - 377 finishers.
40 Heather Mitchell 32:34
57 Daniel Van Essen 38:15
For the first time since the club was formed, we had a ladies team out in this race and they worked well as a team, they all put in a tremendous effort and came home with a very creditable 6th place.
Again, another good performance from the men, equalling last year's finishing position of tenth place and the third time that the club has made the top ten.
