John Boothman decided to do this race a little while ago and pre-entered. He set off in good time and and all went well until he was 4 miles from the race, when the traffic came to a standstill. It took one hour to go one mile. The race start time was 9:30 and the time was now 9:10. Along with many others, John decided to abandon the car and run in, only to learn on arrival that the organisers had responded to the chaos and delayed the start. Any way, that was a 3 mile warm up in place. His race details were:
363 John Boothman 43:31
5029 finishers.
By the end of the day, he had done 20K
Tom Cornthwaite turned out for this race and showed his class by beating the rest of the field by over two minutes. Three Barlickers turned up for this race which is run up a valley, which always gives the impression that it is dark and dismal, but in fact this turned out to be a great run through the wood, on a nice route and of course helped very much by the weather.
The race was dominated by the youngsters. Max Wharton the U23 from Calder Valley won the race and 2nd was Joshua Boyle from Hyndburn AC. In the results, he is also classified as an U23 runner. In actual fact, he is only 14 years of age - what a phenomenal athlete he is.
5 Nick Treitl 26:04
9 Andy Berry 27:19
19 John Boothman 32:23 (1st V50)
The Champagne League is a series of 10 races taking place between March & July over the roads and country of East Yorkshire. The race last night was 4.3 miles / 6.92 kilometres. It was mainly on road with a little bit of off road towards the end and it attracted 117 runners.
Michael Alexander took part and had a good run to finish in 51st position in a time of 29:48.
He was pleased with his run and very impressed with the organisation of the race
Jimmy Craig was the overall race winner. This is his first 10K win and a PB of 33:44. This throws the championship wide open. If Jimmy can win the last two races in the series, he will be champion. If he loses only one of them to Marc Hartley, then Marc will be champion. This series looks like it is going down to the wire.
Despite coming second in the ladies race, Sarah Tipler still leads the ladies table, which after this race has five Barlick members in the top ten.
