Report from Chewy
There were 5 Barlickers present for this midweek freebie at Marl Pitts. I missed the start with the pack already out of the field as I made my way through the funnel. It was a bit of a novelty bobbing and weaving past folk on the narrow path which goes on for about the first mile. I passed Rachel Lowther about a mile in who has taken to copying my shorts. Then John 'race machine' Boothman, who seemed shocked to see me. I caught up to Andy Berry next who was stalking Shaun in the battle of the chairman. Once past Shaun I'd passed about 120 runners and started trying to reel the front runners in.
It was the first round of the English champs fell season on Saturday and due to the road relays we only had Virgil Barton in attendance. That being said, Virgil put in a cracking performance in a stacked field, finishing 41st in 1.45.56. The race was run by Tom Addison of Helm Hill in a fierce descent to the finish, when after 14 miles of running, there was only a minute between the top 6.

Conditions were not brilliant for this race, which some described as a rain-sodden bog fest, yet it still managed to attract a record turnout, including five Barlickers. A good run from Andy Collins saw him secure a top twenty finish.

These races are hard. It is like running two back to back marathons and then some, with over 8,800 foot of ascent thrown in for good measure. This year, the race was run in the reverse order which made it even harder than usual, as all the climbs come in the second half.
Gary Bradley finished the race in 11:47:53 in 113th positions. This time was slower than that which he achieved last year and he puts this down to the route reversal. This is a pretty good achievement when you consider that 371 runners set off on this race and only 329 of them made it to the finish line.
Ian Livesey and Gary Shaw made their way to Wigan to get in a Half Marathon before their spring Marathon. It turned out to be a great decision as they finished 1st and 3rd. Livers had a good battle with James Kevan of Horwich and came home with a time of 72:19. Gary ran a good time of 76:40.
1 Ian Livesey 72:19
3 Gary Shaw 76:40
New member Craig Shearer ran this race, as he does every year, and put in a cracking performance. He ran 33.46 and came home in 3rd place.

Julian Hood made the trip to Thirsk for this popular race in his build up to the Marathon in April. Conditions weren't the best on the day, but he came away with a solid time of 57:46. Emma Bailey also made the trip and ran a cracking time and a pb of 1:11:20.
