Last year, the top three finishers were Tom Adams, Simon Bailey and Rob Hope, in that order. Those same three names were in the top three again, but in a different order. Tom Adams led the field out and he looked as though he was once again going to boss it. On the return, he was still leading on the track coming off the moors, but Rob Hope was up with him and you had to wonder if he was playing a tactical game and just waiting to pounce. This year those two were way ahead of Simon Bailey who was in third place. When it came to the run in, it was Rob who came out the better of the two, taking victory by 8 seconds and setting a new course and V40 record.
Andy Berry had a good run for Barlick, coming home in 23rd place in a field containing a lot of good runners with Dave Halliday in 132nd place.
Hannah Newbold had a good run out and appeared to be going very easily on the run in off the moors and looked very clean despite her face plant in a bog after the second descent.
1 Rob Hope 31:08
2 Tom Adams 31:12
3 Simon Bailey 33:12
23 Andy Berry 36:34
132 Dave Halliday 43:57
251 Hannah Newbold 51:07
We had a few juniors out in the Quarry Runs. The under 10s to U16s all ran together and that is how the results appeared. We have tried to sort out category positions on a provisional basis, but these may be subject to error.

The nice thing about John Boothman is that he just loves running. He does not mess about targeting races or having a week off because he is saving himself. If he is free and there is a race, he is out there racing. He knows that he is not going to win, but he enjoys the run out, the freedom of the fells and afterwards a well earned pint and a chat with like minded people.
He was our only runner at this race. He was 68th in a time of 56:41 out of a field of 125. It was a bit slower time for him than last year, which he puts down to the heavy going underfoot.
The race was won by Mark Nixon of Pudsey & Bramley in a time of 41:44 with Sam Tosh 2nd, Ian Holmes 3rd and Sam Watson 4th.
Question. Will John run in The Stoop tomorrow?
It was a good win for our ladies team last Saturday and this week they have made it into Athletics Weekly.

What a day for the Barlick ladies. They were third team in 2013, they were 3rd last year, but this year, they romped home in first place. Jen Hird and Leanne Dinsdale got the team off to a good start by taking an early lead and handing over in first place to Kelly Whiteside and Lorraine Slater. These are a good pair, but they were up against Wharfedale's top pairing of Emma Hopkinson & Lucy Needham and they dropped a place. Then it was the turn of Lucy Beresford & Paula Cullen, who put everything into their leg and regained first place after the Wharfedale pairing made a navigational error. Our last pair was Emma Bailey and Angela Donlan who set off like there was a charging bull after them and at that point, baring injury or accident, it looked like it was all over. As it happened, they ran a cracking leg and opened up the gap even further on the chasing Wharfedale team.
The men's A' team got off to a good start and there was nothing between them and Bingley 'A' at the first hand over point at the White Lion. By the Murder Mile, our pairing of Luke Maude and Julian Hood had opened up a 12 second gap on Bingley and they were a good two to three minutes in front of the chasing Wharfedale pair of Sam Watson & Ted Mason. However, by the time they emerged out of the mist on the top of Ilkley Moor, things had changed dramatically. Wharfedale had suddenly gone to the front and opened up a 90 second lead on the Barlick pair. Last year, Julian Hood looked strong on this leg and was pulling a struggling Chewy round. This year, it was Luke Maude who was pulling a struggling Julian round, who was battling with the cold and the wet. However, at this stage, they still had a 30 second lead over Bingley. However, by the finish, things had changed again as Chris Smale was struggling with a niggle on the last leg and this allowed Bingley to catch up and take second place and for Wharfedale to run out worthy winners.
However, behind them, there were some very sound performances from our 'B' team, who despite being at one time being closely pursued by Wharfedale 'B', managed to pull out a good lead and comfortably take 4th place.
All in all, it was a pretty good day for the club. We had five teams out of the top ten and all of our teams in the top thirteen.
The top teams finished as follows:
1 Wharfedale 'A' 3:27:58
2 Bingley 'A' 3:37:16
3 Barlick 'A' 3:38:54
4 Barlick 'B' 3:47:58
5 Wharfedale 'B' 3:59:15
6 Keighley & Craven 'A'4:08:17
7 Barlick 'C' 4:12:59
8 Barlick 'D' 4:23:28 (Vets)
9 Barlick Ladies 4:25:59 (1st Ladies Team)
10 Bingley 'B' 4:36:56
11Wharfedale Ladies 4:37:04 (2nd Ladies Team)
12 Keighley & Craven Mixed 4:50:19 (1st Mixed Team)
13 Barlick 'E' 4:57:59
14 Bingley Ladies 5:02:51 (3rd Ladies Team)
15 Keighley & Craven Mixed 'B' 5:02:54 (2nd Mixed Team)
A big thank you must go to Keighley & Craven for putting on this event. It is a cracking relay race over a great course. Thanks too must go to all the marshals who stood out in some very cold and wet weather.
71 Graham WADSWORTH 33:05
76 Joanne MAUPIZI 35:47
86 Claire MCGLASHAN 44:54
2 James TINGLE 18:47
The tables for this league have now been updated and are in the results section. They show that the 'A 'Team is firmly at top of Division Two with maximum points. and the 'B' Team is firmly at the top of Division Four.
The V40 team is in 2nd place in Division Two and therefore in a promotion position, but they are being hotly pursued by Chorley Athletic and Tri.
The ladies head Division Three and although they were not the first team at Liverpool, they beat those teams who might also be in contention and they increased their lead at the top of the table. The ladies 'B' team suffered from not having a team out at Liverpool, but nevertheless, are 10th in the Division.
What dreadful weather it was for this "pub run" from Barnoldswick to Haworth. However, despite that, a good time was had by all as the following account from Doc Bryan recalls.
65 Susan HIRD 31:35
74 Graham WADSWORTH 33:46
It was a wet and wild night up Sharp Haw and 30 brave souls took up the Bedlamite challenge. However, they were rewarded with some fine ale in the Heifer afterward to warm us up.
4 Julian Hood 37:54
5 Andy Berry 37:59
The main aims of the club are to increase the participation of running in Barnoldswick and to keep organised running as accessible as possible.
