Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Imagine two back to back marathons with 4,000 metres of ascent thrown in.  Add to that the rough terrain of the Lake District and that is the setting for this race.  It runs from Caldbeck in the north of the Lakes, near Blencathra and finishes at Cartmel in the south.  That is a total of 50 miles and it includes Blencathra, Helvellyn and Fairfield to name but three of the hills en route.  Not only that, but Saturday was not the most brilliant weather in which to be out running. Gary Bradley completed the run in 14:49:14 and finished 64th male.  There were 214 finishers and numerous others who retired.

This classic fell race was won by Carl Bell of Keswick AC in 2:13:14.  Our only representative was John Boothman who finished in 154th position, which was better then last year, but in a slower time.  The conditions were tough and John went astray for ten minutes.  You would think that after 4 races, he would know where he was going.  But the conditions were not good and a lot of the other runners struggled as well.

154 John Boothman 3:21:26

Two Barlick ladies did the club proud in this race.  Emma Bailey was first lady and Susan Hird was 2nd LV60.  The leading lady was Lucy Williamson of Ilkley Harriers until 300 metres from the end, when a sprint finish from Emma enabled her to pass Lucy and take the honours (and a £50 first prize).

On the other hand, Susan was the leading :LV60, but towards the finish, she lost her legs and had a "Brownlee wobble" and just missed out on a category win.

15 Emma Bailey 1:33:35 (1st lady)
198 Susan Hird 2:13:07 (2nd LV60)
260 Gary Bailey 2:52:16

2 Jack Villiers 19:59

2 Andrew Carson 19:30
28 Lucile Pickles 25:07 New PB
37 Tom Duffy 27:01
67 Lisa Pickles 33:04
71 Wendy Duffy 33:38

1 Marc Hartley 17:36
7 James Tingle 18:37
43 Ted Cockett 21:24
156 Daniel Thornber 25:42

The race was won by Jacob Watson of Clayton Le Moors.

2 Marc Hartley 3:50

114 finishers.

30 James Austin 43:20
45 Andrew Smith 45:02
130 Richard Treitl

139 finished.

A new PB for Paul Elcock in this Half Marathon which he completed in 1:30:52, just outside his target time.  His position was 462.  There were 8,540 finishers.

In view of the team choosing to drop out of the Ian Hodgson, Andy Collins made the best of it by turning out for this race and showed what a job he could have done in the Lakes, by coming home in third place.

3 Andy Collins 53:57

A great run in this race by Ian Livesey to comfortably come home as race winner.  A great run too from Andrew Carson to secure a top ten finish and a PB.  Cloey was targeting 50 minutes and just missed out a week after her marathon.

1 Ian Livesey 33:52
8 Andrew Carson 36:53
128 Cloey Mason 50:38
