Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. The ladies made the trip to Sutton in Coldfield today and did the club proud yet again. Both men and ladies qualified with their excellent showing at Blackpool two weeks ago. The men had 6 of the original team missing so it was left to the ladies to fly the flag.
Annabel Ralph got the team off to a great start finishing 29th on the first leg and the returning Sarah Tipler ran the fastest Barlick short leg taking back 3 places. Rachel Villiers was only 8 seconds off Sarah's time and pulled another place back and the team were 25th. Jen Hird then took over on the long leg and managed to only lose two places. Leanne Dinsdale pulled one back on leg 5 and Emma Bailey anchored the team home in 26th place. A quality result yet again from the ladies.

Craig Shearer has finished 3rd two weekends on the bounce but this time he went two better and won this race beating Tom Collinge of Queensbury into 2nd place and Gav Mullholland into 3rd.  Times not yet available.

A great run today from Ian Livesey saw himself finish in 11th position overall and set a new club record for a marathon of 2 hrs 30 mins.  Matt Lalor too got himself into a good rhythm and finished in the top twenty not far behind Ian.  Further down the field Mark Holgate pulled a hamstring early on in the race, but to his credit he kept going to finish his first marathon.  At his third attempt, Tim Pigott managed a sub 3 hour finish as did Dan Taylor who finished not far behind him.

This is a 27 mile run over Warton Crag, through the picturesque villages of Silverdale, Yealand, Sandside and the seaside village of Arnside.  It is a varied route made up of a mixture of hills, roads and off road running, covering a distance of just over a marathon with 2,000 ft of climb.   Incredibly, Barlick took the first two places.

Report from Chewy

There were 5 Barlickers present for this midweek freebie at Marl Pitts.  I missed the start with the pack already out of the field as I made my way through the funnel.  It was a bit of a novelty bobbing and weaving past folk on the narrow path which goes on for about the first mile. I passed Rachel Lowther about a mile in who has taken to copying my shorts. Then John 'race machine' Boothman, who seemed shocked to see me.  I caught up to Andy Berry next who was stalking Shaun in the battle of the chairman.  Once past Shaun I'd passed about 120 runners and started trying to reel the front runners in.

It was the first round of the English champs fell season on Saturday and due to the road relays we only had Virgil Barton in attendance. That being said, Virgil put in a cracking performance in a stacked field, finishing 41st in 1.45.56. The race was run by Tom Addison of Helm Hill in a fierce descent to the finish, when after 14 miles of running, there was only a minute between the top 6.

1 Tom Addison(Helm Hill) 1.33.28
41 Virgil Barton 1.45.56

Stephen Shorrocks is a man in form and is getting closer to the front every week. He was our sole runner in this race and finished 5th.

5 Stephen Shorrock 58:25

3 Craig Shearer 33:39
81 Paul Elcock 44:01
