This year, Sam Wadsworth & Kirsty Hall moved up a class as Kirsty was feeling more confident following her recent running performances. This is a two day event and involved them running about 30 miles in the Lake District around the area of Ullswater and Haweswater. This involved around 4,500 ft of climbing on day one and around 3,500 ft of climbing on day two. On Saturday, they were beset by heavy showers and at times the going was tough. Because of the wet, even straightforward running became difficult and on the descent from Angle Tarn going in the direction of the Ian Hodgson race, they took a tumble and they found themselves descending at an every increasing rate. Luckily they managed to stop, but no sooner had they done so, than another competitor swept past, luckily missing them but tumbling into a small ravine, where she suffered a broken arm. Also in the ravine had been another competitor who had suffered head injuries. These were dealt with by the Mountain Rescue and our pair carried on, finishing 9th overall after day one. On day two, the weather was much better and they finished 6th overall, making their final position 7th and 3rd mixed team. Just to get this into perspective, last year, in this class, Nick Charlesworth & Dave Kirkham from Wharfedale, both class runners in their own right, came home in 18th place, so our pair were pleased with their first year in the higher level Carrock Fell class, in this competition..

There were 18 teams from Barlick, a total of 54 runners, in these relays. And what a show they put on, with the 'A' team of Jimmy Craig, Luke Maude and Tom Corrigan winning the event out right. The Barlick Ladies team of Sarah Tipler, Angela Donlan and Lorraine Slater were first ladies. The Barlick Vets team of Virgil Barton, Carl Pawson and Chris Smale were first vets team and to cap it all, Sarah Tipler had the fastest ladies lap time.
The draft results are below. More detailed results showing individual times will be published over the weekend.
This is the first time we have put a team into this event and it was done on the basis, not of the club entering a team, but a group of members coming together and giving it a go.
The first leg was Andy Berry & Ian Livesey who put the team into 5th position on what was a tight leg. They handed over to Pete Beresford & Rob Hodgkinson, the latter having come into the team at the last minute to replace an injured runner. These two held on to 5th place. The next leg was Glenn Whittaker & Ben Hoyle and they dropped a place, putting the team into 6th. The next leg was Jock Boothman & Mick Keegan who held on to that position. They handed over to Sam Wadsworth & Ian Beresford, who had Pudsey & Bramley & Pudsey Pacers in their sights when they set off. They took these two teams on the climb up onto Ilkley Moor and descending on the other side, they opened up a good gap, which the chasing teams never looked likely to close. The club therefore ran out 4th on the first attempt at this event.
The finishing times were:
1 Wharfedale 5:33:26
2 Keighley & Craven 6:06:27
3 Saltaire 6:11:41
4 Barlick 6:21:36

6 Pudsey Pacers 6:38:23
7 Horsforth 6:43:30
8 Queensbury 6:49:50
63 Richard Treitl 29:30
Derek Walkden and Stuart Bryan took on this challenge which covers 150miles from Seascale to Whitby with 4500m of ascent.
We have been saying for a while that Angela Donlan has been running well and she proved the point today by finishing first woman and managing an overall top twenty finish. As a consequence, she was also first W40.
