Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. It was good to see a few Barlickers turn out on the day getting some racing experience under their belts.  It was a particularly good run from George Fitzpatrick who got himself in the leading group of four runners who broke away from the rest of the pack and he managed to hold off the promising Jonathnon Archer of Ilkley to finish in second place, just a few seconds behind race winner Rowan Ashworth of Ambleside.

Following on from the race report yesterday, the team results are now out and Barlick were the 4th team behind Pudsey & Bramley, Calder Valley and Dark Peak.  It was four to count and the stars for Barlick were:

Julian Hood 19, James Craig 35, David Poole 37 and Virgil Barton 47.

This is called the cake race, because you can bring a cake in lieu of the entry fee of £5.  There is a competition for the best cake and after the race, all the cakes are for eating and if you fancy one, it is yours in return for a £2 donation to local causes.  On to the race itself.  It is held over well trodden paths in the area surrounding the village of Diggle which is located between Oldham & Huddersfield.  It is a ten mile race with 1699 ft of ascent.

Richard Treitl was our only representative there and he finished in 240th position out of 278 finishers.

First of all, those watching this race saw history being made, as an incredible performance from Victoria Wilkinson saw her come home  in 13th position overall as first woman and settting a new women's record of 3:09:19 in the process.  This was quite an incredible achievement from an incredible athlete.

We had a record number of Barlickers out in this race, many running their first peaks race and they produced some feisty performances.  First home was Julian Hood who ran a superb race and secured himself a top twenty finish, knocking 6 minutes from his time of last year.  Next behind Julian was Jimmy Craig, who had a ding dong battle with peaks first time David Poole.  David was leading the pair at the top of Ingleborough, but Jimmy dug deep into those famous reserves and managed to cross the line just ahead of his team mate.  A great performance from David to make a race of it with Jimmy.
