Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable.  The details are:Several members got together and put a couple of teams into this event and given that it was on such an ad hoc basis, did remarkably well.  The vets team took first place and the mixed team were third.

Ian Beresford & Andy Berry got the vets off to a good start by finishing their leg in sixth position before handing over to Shaun Chew & Carl Pawson.  These two managed to hold this position and they handed over to Lucas Payne & Paul Elcock.  This pair lost a place and the following pair of Shane Muller & Jacqueline Collins slipped by two places and thus handed over to the finishing pair of Ian Cocks & Ben Hoyle in 9th place.  This final pair put in a good performance and pulled back one place which was enough to secure first Vets Team.

The first leg of the mixed team was Billy Haines & Leanne Dinsdale who finished their leg in 27th place.  The next pair of Lucy Brown & Andy Collins put in a good performance and were 22nd in their leg, but overall finished in 29th position.  Next off were Hannah Watson & Scott Boardman who pulled the team up to 23rd overall.  Jamie Milligan & Karen Lemon lost three places on their leg and the last leg of Amanda Haines & James Fent lost a further four places to finish in 30th place overall and 3rd mixed team.

All in all, a good day out in a fun event.

Just one Barlicker in this tough Lakeland classic - Gary Bradley.  Entries were limited to 120 of which 30 took the short route and 90, including Gary took the long one.  Gary enjoyed the day out and commented on it as follows:

An absolutely belting day out, but the hot weather did take its toll early on until there were streams in which to cool off.  The 22 mile, 8,250ft route is brutal with long steep climbs, steep descents & rough ground.  Wasdale lays claim to be the toughest Lakes AL, but after yesterday I’m not so sure - this is one severe test of fitness & perseverance.  Just what a great fell race should be.  And the refreshments provided at the finish by the organisers are second to none, even beer on tap!

Another amazing run from Alex Mason, who is going from strength to strength.  He achieved another PB this morning and is two minutes faster than he was just 12 months ago.  When you are recording times of below 20 minutes, that is quite some improvement.  It is great so see youngsters doing so well in the sport.
