Des Walkden achieved a new pb of 20:45, which he is quite pleased about, having run in the Burnley Lions 10K the previous evening.
The final results are now out and it turns out that Barlick Fell Runners finished in 13th place, ahead of many of the established clubs.
Well done to all concerned, especially to Gary Bradley who stepped in at the very last minute to cover an illness.
26 Chris Smedley 32:59
Those of us in our advancing years can remember when the present Cumbria was Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire. Each one hosted at least one of the Lakes highest peaks. This race visits each of the old counties and makes its way to the top of their respective peaks, Sca Fell Pike, Helvellyn and Coniston Old Man. This involves a race distance of 37 miles and an ascent of over 10,000 ft. Andy Hirst loves the Lake District and this sort of race. You have to run it in pairs and he normally teams up with Pete Jackson. This year, Pete was injured and he therefore joined up Simon Franklin who had also lost his partner through injury. Below is a link to Andy's account of the day. For anyone who knows the Lake District, Andy's graphic descriptions take you round those fells and valleys and as you read through it, you realise the magnitude of the challenge that this race represents.
There is also a link to Simon's account who has written his it from the stand point of someone for whom this was his first experience of this race.
Leg One. Gary Shaw & Nick Treitl. 4th
Leg Two. Scott Baistow & Michael Thistlethwaite. 15th
Leg Three. Gary Bradley & John Boothman. 19th
Leg Four. Sam Wadsworth & Andy Berry. 16th
Leg Five. Rob Weir & Dave Halliday. 18th
Leg Six. Stephen Chew & Shaun Chew 15th.
For a club that has only been in existence for 5 months, that is a good performance. Well done to all those who took part.
Further updates will follow during the course of the day.
Rob Weir entered this race which is basically a run up Simon's Seat from Appletreewick and he finished in 6th place.

A completely new route for the pub run this week, going from Elslack up to Pin Haw, whilst the beginners group ran along the old railway line.
The word is that Chris Smedley took part in this race and finished 73rd with a time of 1:37:52.
John Boothman ran in this race as he was sponsored for the 'Bottle Stop' charity by the Barnoldswick & Earby Rotary Club. He ran steady under doctor's orders, although not as steady as the doctor ordered and he finished 26th out of 158 with a time of 43:56.
Good run from Andrew Carson saw him lead the Barlickers home in this race and they finished as follows:

Jean Brown Sets New Record
The run of the day had to be from from Jean Brown who worked her way through the field from 20th position at CP3 to 9th position overall. In doing so, she finished first lady and set a new course record.
In the men's race, Neil Northrop of Dark Peak set a scorching pace right from the outset, at the front of the field and the following pack struggled to keep up. Shaun Chew was one of those chasing Neil, but the fast pace eventually took its toll and as he faded, it allowed Neil's team mate, Joe Blackett to move into second place, thus ensuring a Dark Peak 1st & 2nd positions. Mike Wallis of Clayton improved both in his position and time from last year, but he could not quite keep up with Joe Blackett and had to settle for 3rd place.
Despite having secured a one-two, Dark Peak missed out on the team prize by one point and it once again went to Clayton.
Of the Barlickers, Shaun Chew was probably disappointed with his race, although he finished in a very creditable 4th place. Andy Berry had a cracking race to finish in 13th place with Stuart Bryan not far behind him in 16th place.
Rob Weir, having made a navigational error, definitely did not enjoy his race and was disappointed with his performance, in fact, a smile only returned to his face when he was sinking a pint in the Assherton Arms.
Special mention must be made of Rachel Lowther, who has only been running for a year and she made it round the course with some encouragement from her sister, Kirsty Hall. This is a tough course and the fact that she completed it says a lot about the determination of Rachel.

Shaun Chew led the Barlickers home, but only just managed to beat Nick Treitl who must still have been feeling the effects of the Three Peaks Race. Sam Wadsworth was third for Barlick.
On the night, there seemed to be a lot of Barlick vests on display and a total number of 16 Barlickers entered this race. The only club to exceed this figure was Wharfedale.
As is usual with Barlick, a post race analysis took place in the local hostelry.
The whole of the Barlick finishers and times were:
9 Shaun Chew 24:59
10 Nick Treitl 25:19
13 Sam Wadsworth 26:18
17 Dan Taylor 26:45
21 Andy Berry 27:11
25 Ian Livesey 27:59
26 Andrew Carson 28:05
28 Mick Keegan 28:16
51 John Boothman 31:13
52 Derek Walkden 31:22
53 Dave Halliday 31:23
61 Scott Baistow 32:03
70 Bob Jackson 33:34
71 Glenn Whittaker 34:02
88 Rachel Lowther 36:33

The main aims of the club are to increase the participation of running in Barnoldswick and to keep organised running as accessible as possible.
