Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Barlick Fell Runners have a structured training programme which caters for all abilities from absolute beginners to top class athletes.  This training programme for beginners will operate over a twelve week period, so all beginners will start together and gradually improve together.  Any new beginners will have to wait until the next twelve week cycle begins before they can join the programme.  You will not be asked to progress to the next level until your coach feels that you are ready to do so. The next beginners session will commence after the summer holiday period.  A guide as to what the beginners programme entails

Beginners Training Programme

The information below is a guide to all of our training sessions.  Any variations will be published on the calendar and in the notices column on the home page of the web site.

Monday 7:00 pm Mixed Ability Session

Run Leader: Leanne Dinsdale.

This session caters for all abilities.  The better your ability, the harder the session will be.

Tuesday 7:00 pm - Track Session.  Experienced Runners

This takes place at Seedhill Athletics Track, Surrey Rd, Nelson, Lancashire BB9 7TY.  It is a speed session and is designed to help experience runners develop both speed and stamina.  If you would like to come along, arrive at 6:45 so that you are ready for a 7:00 pm start.

Run Leader - Harvey Grace.  Contact Stephen Chew for details.

Wednesday 7:00pm - Pub/Social Run

These runs cater for intermediate and experienced runners who fancy a gentle paced run and social beverage afterwards.  Ideal for those intermediates who may not want to train seriously but just enjoy a run out in the surrounding hills.  Glenn Whittaker, Pete Jackson and a host of other runners put the calendar together which are listed on the link below.

You don’t have to be a member to come to a pub run, in fact, pub runs are an ideal way to get to know us and find out whether Barlick Fell Runners is the club for you.

Summer Pub Runs

Thursday 7:00 pm -  Seedhill Running Track

This is a Fartlek session.  Fartlek is a Swedish word meaning "speed play".  Simply defined, it means periods of fast running, intermixed with periods of slower running.  The session has some track, but also includes some road and some hills.  It is a good session if you are new to racing and fancy pushing yourself with other runners.

Footwear - Road Shoes
Run Leader - Harvey Grace.

Thursday 7:00 pm Silent Night Mixed Ability Session

Details to follow.
