Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. These races are hard.  It is like running two back to back marathons and then some, with over 8,800 foot of ascent thrown in for good measure.  This year, the race was run in the reverse order which made it even harder than usual, as all the climbs come in the second half.

Gary Bradley finished the race in 11:47:53 in 113th positions.  This time was slower than that which he achieved last year and he puts this down to the route reversal.  This is a pretty good achievement when you consider that 371 runners set off on this race and only 329 of them made it to the finish line.

Ian Livesey and Gary Shaw made their way to Wigan to get in a Half Marathon before their spring Marathon.  It turned out to be a great decision as they finished 1st and 3rd. Livers had a good battle with James Kevan of Horwich and came home with a time of 72:19. Gary ran a good time of 76:40.

1 Ian Livesey 72:19
3 Gary Shaw 76:40

New member Craig Shearer ran this race, as he does every year, and put in a cracking performance. He ran 33.46 and came home in 3rd place.

1 Joe Sagar(spenborough) 33.11
3 Craig Shearer 33.46

Julian Hood made the trip to Thirsk for this popular race in his build up to the Marathon in April. Conditions weren't the best on the day, but he came away with a solid time of 57:46. Emma Bailey also made the trip and ran a cracking time and a pb of 1:11:20.

1 Graham Rush (Cheltenham) 50:36

Thomas Corrigan and Will Onek were both representing Lancashire at the weekend in Loughborough after their good showing at the Lancashire championships. Tom has been brilliant this season, winning the Mid Lancs Cross Country League outright and he followed this up in this race by finishing 4th Lancs counter and 85th overall. Will was a few seconds back with another good run being 6th Lancs counter on the day and 89th overall. Reigning silver and bronze medalist for 10,000m and 5,000m Andy Vernon won the race with a commanding performance and a time of 37.50.

1 Andy Vernon 37.50
85 Thomas Corrigan 41.58
89 William Onek 42.02

This was Ian Livesey's first race of the year and it was well worth waiting for as he ran out the comfortable winner, showing that he is in good form before the road racing season starts.

Julian Hood came home 5th in what was a good field.

5 Julian Hood 1.24.35
