Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. All Our Yesterdays

What were you doing, just round the corner of your mind, sixteen years ago in this race?  Surprisingly enough, a few of the present Barlickers were there.  Sam Wadsworth won the event.  Glenn Whittaker came 7th and a young Sam Watson.(not a Barlicker, but we all know Sam) came 9th. And look at the very young Sarah Tipler taking the first junior girl prize.

Once again, Jimmy Craig won this race, this year knocking off over a minute from his winning time of last year. His winning time of 38:08 was the second fastest time recorded over this course.   He finished with a comfortable lead over the second place runner, the new lease of life veteran runner Chris Smale.  Chris finished first V50 and by implication first V40 and V45. In third place was young up and coming runner Jordan McDonald, who has just turned 17.  Watch out for this young man in the future.

The women's race was won by another young up and coming talent, Elizabeth Greenwood, who is only age 16.  She was followed home by Lynne Clough of Chorley AC and Lorraine Slater of Barlick.

Both the Barlick men and the Barlick women were first teams.

Chris Smale is enjoying a new lease of life at the moment.  Last week, in the Blencathra race, he was not far off the V50 record.  In this race, he went one better.  He won the race outright in a time of 16:07.

Chris describes this as a great little race which deserves more support than it gets.

Full results follow as soon as they are available.

Thousands of keen runners basked in summer sunshine as they took part in the iconic Blaydon Race last night.

The famous road race returned on “the ninth of June” for the 34th consecutive year, covering 5.7 miles of tarmac from Collingwood Street in Newcastle City Centre to Shibdon Road playing fields in Blaydon.

About 4,000 runners took part, many representing North East running clubs, but our Mark Nutter was also there sporting his Barlick vest. He completed the 5.7 mile course in a time of 45:38, finishing 182 in his age category

The results for this race are now in the results section and contain a couple of interesting facts.  One is that Chris Smale was both first V45 and first V50.  Also his time was only two minutes outside the V50 record.

The second is that Barlick were first team, beating local clubs Keswick and Borrowdale.

Pete and Ben decided to have a go at this challenge and were surprised at the amount of climb that was involved.  (770 metres).  There were some tarmac sections on the course where they struggled, but on the rough of the fells, they came into their own and pulled back lost places.  They set themselves a target of finishing under four hours, thirty, so they were well pleased to finish in 4:26:52.

How does Jimmy Craig do it.  Four races in a week, two of them this weekend.

In this race there was a battle at the front of the field between Ted Mason and Sam Tosh, with Sam just managing to get home first with a 2 second margin.

1 Sam Tosh, Rossendale 9:38

5 Jimmy Craig 10:32
