Twelve Stage Road Relays, Blackpool - 25 March 2017

The men for the first time entered two teams into the northern 12 stage. The A team was the strongest we've fielded but were still missing a couple due to injuries.
With this we were looking to break into the top 10 for the first time in the clubs short history. Tom Corrigan and John Whiteside got the mens team under way on the super fast 1st leg and both ran well. Tom ran the fastest Barlick long leg on the day against the big boys. The A team were 20th after leg 1 and the B team were 42nd. Marc Hartley started cutting through the field with the fastest short leg of the day and pulled the A team up to 12th, Dan Balshaw just recovering from injury lost a few places for the B team.

Will Onek consolidated the position then the famous Craig pulled 2 places back on leg 4. Chris Smale and Andrew Chew ran well and pulled the B team up to 42nd. Ray Edgar lost a place on leg 5 and Gaz Shaw consolidated on 6 before Livers got the A team back into the top 10. Leg 8 saw Matt Lalor run the 2nd fastest short leg for us and took us up to 8th. The B team were also making inroads with Dave Poole, James Tingle, Andy Collins and Andy Carson all taking places back on their respective legs. Lee parrington, Julian Hood consolidated but Morpeth snook past Mark Holgate on leg 11. It was a battle on leg 12 with Stephen Chew closing the gap on Blackburn but just failing to sneak 8th. The B team carried on their push with Scott Boardman, Dan Taylor, Lucas Payne and Shaun Chew bringing the team home in 35th. All in all a cracking day for the men and a day they can all be proud of. If the lads keep improving at this rate top 5 may be a possibility next year.

Ladies 6 Stage

The ladies were without Sarah Tipler but what a performance. Last year in their 1st 6 stage the ladies finished a very creditable 15th. We were hoping they could improve on that result but to do what they have done is remarkable. I have seen first hand the work they have been putting in at the track and its great to see them all pushing each other on. Annabel Ralph and Angela Donlan got them underway and came home in 12th and 42nd respectively. Rachel Villiers ran an absolute stormer on leg 2 and took the ladies up to 8th, Karen Brindle also ran well and took 3 places back for the B team. Emma Bailey continued her good form and managed to just lose 1 spot with Lorraine running a fast long leg and managing to keep the ladies in the top 10. The B team were also on the move with Heather Driver and Laura Craig taking back 6 places. Jennifer Hird took the ladies up to 8th with the fastest short leg of the day and Leanne Dinsdale held on to 8th spot with a good run on 6. The Bteam were continuing their upward trend with Hannah Watson taking a place back before Victoria Peel took 2 back on the last leg.
Again if the ladies can replicate the work they've put in this year there's no reason they can't improve again next year. Considering 9 of the 12 that ran weren't even runners when the club started just over 4 years ago its a remarkable achievement.
